Some More Testimonials

Even though Margie has been on oxygen she continues to dedicate her life to God and the Lower Room. Here are just a couple testimonies taken from a journal she keeps.

May 16th 2016
"I was able to share my testimony with a Muslim friend that has come to the Lower Room. She is in her 20s and I planted some gospel seeds. I love the Muslim people."

2016

"Two girls in their 20s came for maternity and new born clothes. I was able to share the gospel with them. They were very attentive and seemed to receive everything I said. I also gave my own testimony. One of the girls told of hearing the voice of JESUS... more than once. After the 3rd time He called her name, [then] He stopped.

She asked why he stopped. I told her that Jesus needs her to respond to Him. She asked "How do I respond to Him?" I told her by talking... just like we are talking. I also told her not to be afraid... that Jesus loves her and doesn't want fear in the picture...

... no one has taught her how to follow Him (Jesus), how to be disciple."

When Margie read these to us at our last Lower Room meeting I had chills and it made my heart happy. I am overwhelmed by how much love Margie shows with her time and resources to those in need. She is showing the love of Jesus through her actions, thoughts and words.

Thank you all so much for your support of the Lower Room! Margie could also use your prayers for:
  • healing
  • clothing donations
  • the people who visit the Lower Room for help

Here is a photo of when we visited her after she returned from a hospital stay. She took her oxygen off for the photo. She is continuing to gain strength but has trouble breathing.

Notes From the Lower Room

I asked Margie (who runs The Lower Room Ministry) to share some experiences with the Lower Room. Here is what she shared from September 2015:

"A single mom came to the Lower Room. She shared with me what happened to her as a Christian 2 years ago. Her best friend died in a car accident on the way to her house. This was so traumatic that she had panic attacks and stopped her relationship with God and the church.

In a short time she began having what she called angel visits and "other spirit" visits. These spirits put their hands on her shoulders and arms... calming her down completely. She sensed that it was her friend who was killed.

I shared with her a couple of gifts I was able to pick up in her such as her compassion and sensitivity in the spirit. I also shared how she needed to be very careful and discerning with these gifts, as Satan is able to show himself as an angel of light and is able to deceive us. I pointed out that God wants our focus on Jesus and not to worship angels or have contact with the dead. God uses ministering angels (or as it says in Hebrews) for those being saved. Also, in Acts 12 and Psalms 91:11.

I could tell I was causing her some discomfort as I talked so I asked if I could pray with her. She accepted this. When we finished, she was all smiles and no longer upset. I was glad to have given her these warnings and hope she will receive healing from her friends death and get back to Jesus."

Margie also shared the following:

"The best want to share the gospel for me is to give my testimony when I have the opportunity.

I was able to do this with a mom today. She was not able to find a job after going to college for 2 years in business. I was able to pray with her for her greatest need... a job.

We plant seeds. JESUS is the Savior... He saves!"

I just wanted to share how God is providing for people through the Lower Room. Thank you all for clothing donations. These donations not only provide for peoples physical needs (clothes), but through this ministry God has been able to use Margie to plant seeds. Margie always says, "It's Jesus, not me. It's all God!"

Thank you all for your support of The Lower Room.

Some More Stories From the Lower Room

Here are a few more stories Margie shared with me about how God is working through her and The Lower Room. These events are from this fall 2014.

  • A Mom came for winter clothes for her 2 children. She said she and her husband were staying with her parents and could find no place to live. I was able to pray with her for that, plus their other needs.
  • A woman came for her 3 grandkids (her daughter had left her 3 grandkids with her... refusing all care for them). This grandmother goes to Autumn Ridge and is now going to be taking the grandkids there with her as well. I am so glad for these opportunities to pray with, talk with, and encourage Christians who come to The Lower Room.
  • A young woman attending the Community College in the school of Social Work came to the Lower Room. She is Mormon, has 2 children, and calls often to help me with getting donations. She stays longer to talk. We've been able to pray twice and she is becoming a friend. I invited her to the single mom's dinner [at Rochester Assembly of God] and she accepted. I treat her with respect for her Mormon church attendance and pray for her eyes to be open to the truth.
  • I was able to have a long conversation with a mom, who was struggling with her daughter, age 2. This little girl is a special needs child. Also, we talked about the mom's salvation and how she could get into a MOPS group. I invited her to Assembly Church for this. She was quite open and said she'd like to come.
  • A grandma brought a single mom to The Lower Room. This mom had 2 children who had no clothes, as she had a fire which destroyed her home and clothes.
  • A single mom single mom came to the door in tears... said she had a tumor and wanted prayer. She had no winter coat. I prayed with her after a long conversation, and found her a coat. She gave her life to JESUS.
"JESUS is the Savior... He SAVES people. I am a "seed planter".... I plant seeds and let them see JESUS. ~Margie

I just wanted to share how The Lower Room continues t show the love of Jesus. Margie is planting seeds in the lives of so many. She truly shows the love of Jesus.

Reaching Out with More than Just Clothes

Margie not only clothes those in need but also gets to share about her church and the good news of Jesus with those who come to receive clothing from her. Here are a couple of her experiences (in her word):

October 15th
A [Hispanic] family came for their family of 5. They were looking for a church to go to. I was able to put them in touch with the [Hispanic church held within our church every Sunday]. They were looking for a Spanish speaking service because [only the kids spoke English- the parents spoke Spanish]. They said that they would come Sunday.

October 21st
[A woman] came with a 4 year old girl. A conversation started with her little girl. She kept bringing up Jesus... asking about Him, and she just wouldn't stop! It was wonderful. Her mom... was listening and even trying to answer questions. This was a great time. This single mom's child, a 4 year old girl, knew Jesus; and God was using this child in some big ways-convicting and showing her mom the love of Christ. It was amazing.

September 27th
Many Christians come to the Lower Room for help.

"Therefore, a we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, ESPECIALLY to those who belong to the family of believers." ~Galatians 6:10

This is a special blessing to me, having brothers and sisters come to the Lower Room. I have the opportunity to talk openly about their lives, and pray with them. (Sometimes they can share things that maybe they can't [or don't feel comfortable] within their church).

[This young woman] came for her kids. She talked at length about her 33 year old alcoholic brother, who just last week got hit by a car in Minneapolis and is presently in a coma. An opportunity to share my own drug/alcohol background with her, and to earnestly pray for her brother.

It also turns out that [she] started opening up and asking questions about her own salvation. The Holy Spirit seemed to be moving powerfully as we talked. She is also looking for a church. for herself and her 2 children. I gave her the booklet from [my church] Assembly [of God] and suggested she visit so the Holy Spirit could show her where to go. She is coming back soon for more of her family who need winter clothing.

October 5th
The Grandmother who came in early September came to the Lower Room again. She and I prayed for her oldest granddaughter who is in trouble with boys, at home, etc. Today, she told me God answered our prayers... that her granddaughter was now living with her, and doing much better; not going to church yet, but was reading the bible I gave her.

These are just some of the many stories of how God is working through Margie and The Lower Room. I hope to share more of these stories in the near future. God is good!

How the Lower Room Began

These are Margie words. This is how the Lower Room began.

In 1991 my marriage fell apart. I was left with no money and a lot of pain. It was the kind of emotional pain where you're certainly not in a position to give to anyone else. I had given my life to Jesus some years back, and I was clinging to Him for all I was worth.

About 3 am one morning something new broke in. I don't know whether to call I a dream of a vision. I was awake so I will call it a vision. I saw a picture of the Lower Room as it is today, People were coming to get clothes for their children. There were shelves of clothing all over and a sign titled: The Lower Room. I got up and went to the garage, found a piece of plywood and some paint, and painted the sign that hangs at the bottom of the stairs. It took me a while to hang it, but by faith, I did it.

The basement hadn't been touched in 25 years, and it was awful. I said something like this to God: "Not down here Lord, but if this is You, go for it and I will follow."

The next month brought the beginning of surprising events. My landlord asked if I would clean and paint the basement and take what I had earned off my rent. I needed the money badly, so without saying one word to him or anyone else about the vision I had,, I cleaned up and scraped all the cement walls and floor and painted everything. Two weeks later, I thought to myself, "if I ask my landlord for this space for a ministry, it will be a big test. It is his house, and he'd have to be okay with this whole thing." I asked and he said, "yes."

It seemed so easy after this. Shelves, screens and curtains began to come my way, costing m nothing. I started telling people about my "plan", and donations of clothing began coming in. I still had nothing for newborns. The next month, much to my delight, New Life Family Services called and asked if I'd take all their infant clothes because they needed space.

People in need started to come, and I began to give and love and work in the Lower Room. It occurred to me after a couple of years that God in His mercy put me in a position where all self-pity and concern went out the window. How unlike man He is. Now, I was meeting people in many different situations. Some in crisis, some very poor, other just low income. Mostly moms come, but some dads and grandma's also come. I began meeting people from agencies who brought those in their service. I was introduced to all races, colors and creeds.

One thing seemed clear to me. He wanted all who came to see that He loved them, and that He was a God who cared about their every need. He is a personal God. It seemed clear that He wanted to draw people to Himself.

I want to share something that happened about the second year of the Lower Room ministry. One night at church the pastor who heads Teen Challenge came to speak. He didn't know me or anything about me. After he spoke I asked if he would pray for me. He took my hands and began praying, and as he prayed he shared a picture he was seeing. He said he saw me kneeling at God's feet and giving Him clothing. I began to cry because I knew that no one could have told him this except God. It was so encouraging and confirming to me. Since tat time many more words have been given to me about the Lower Room, many from those that have no knowledge about it or me.

Over the years, I've had many wonderful experiences, becoming friends with the moms and workers. I've also had lots of trials. I want to mention one of these because it was one of the hardest. From time to time, someone would come that would just bug me. I wanted to ask them to leave. My attitude was terrible an I knew I couldn't deal with them. So I prayed, I asked Jesus for His love for them and to let me see them as He did. Within a year I was actually loving these same people. My heart was all changed.

My marriage never got restored, but God has given me His plan for my days. I've seen Him touch people and families, and I want to see more. I've seen many small miracles and I want to see more. The quality of clothing has increased. Everything is based n donations. I believe He wants to do more than give people clothes. I am asking Him for more. My deep desire is for all who come to meet Him. He has a plan for each one of our lives. He turns tragedy, broken dreams and lost hope into satisfactions, security and surprises. As He did for me, He will do for you.

One day, all of our needs and situations here on this earth will end. It's really quite short down here... I can say this now! The One who started the Lower Room and who loves you and me says in Revelations 21: "Now, the dwelling of God is with men, and He will love with them. They will be His people and God Himself will be with them and be their God. He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away."

The welcome mat is out for anyone who wants to come to the Lower Room. The welcome mat is also out for those who want to come to Jesus. The Lower Room will give you quality clothes for your family. Jesus will give you the gift of life and unending salvation.

Welcome!

Welcome to the Lower Room blog!

This page has been created by me, Kristine, a friend of Margie's and the Lower Room. Margie's life and ministry is The Lower Room. I am here to share her experiences with the world. She has touched the lives of so many by showing the love of Jesus in a sacrificial way that seems to come so naturally to Margie. Her joy in the Lord radiates for all to see.

2014 marks 24 years of ministry for the Lower Room. Margie began by listening when she saw a vision from the Lord. Over the years she has had many wonderful experiences, becoming friends with the moms, and workers she comes into contact with as she physically fills the needs of children in families who need clothing.

Margie quotes Psalms when she says "Unless the Lord builds the house, it's builder labors in vain." ~Psalm 127
